The last few days of summer vacation is upon us.
Where did the time go?
This was such a hot summer with record highs, water usage warnings, droughts, fire bans and whirrling air conditioners.
I am thankful for moments like this, where the girls are in the pool, dogs are laying in the cool breeze and I am able to watch the sunset. Of course with a nice glass of Lola sparkling wine from Pelee Island and a relatively half decent book, The Nest.
Cheers to the last of the summer sunsets and the forth coming cooling autumn breezes.
Every year the town of Warkworth host the 13th Annual Long Lunch down it's quaint main street. Last year we missed attending it and we vowed not to miss it in 2016! Sure enough as soon as tickets came for sale we bought ours and some for our friends who were in town that weekend.
This was our first time attending and we absolutely loved it and cannot wait for next years. August is so far away!
There was so much food! There was a choice of salads, meats, rolls, pickles, fresh corn on the cob and an assortment of pies to choose from.
Due to the rain overnight and the threat of it throughout the day, the long lunch this year was held indoors. It was still pretty amazing to see the community come together and eat under one roof.
There was live music, 50/50 draws and friendly conversations.
A true highlight to the summer months in Northumberland!
With the long lunch came the Show and Shine of vintage trailers on Main St. and that was a blast!
So much inspiration for our own little golden! Now my husband is talking about getting another vintage trailer that we can tow and show! Such fun!
Camp Ho-Ba-Chee had a wonderful set up of props for an impromptu photo session. The girls loved dressing up and having their picture taken.
Good news for Main St.! A new shoppe is opening in September! The General will be opening up Just in time for the Warkworth Fair!
Gosh I absolutely love living in a small town where the heart of it is community!

Just a friendly reminder.
There are lots and lots of local farmers markets in many areas. Don't forget to check them out.

Just over 2 months into our garden and things are looking good. The plants get full sun, a gentle slope for run off (if it ever rains) and a bed full of horse manure that's covered by a straw mulch for protection.
I have enjoyed walking the dogs through the garden, watching everything grow and soon to enjoy the fruits of our labour.
What is planted:
Till then, I am spending time pulling the odd weed and looking up ways to freeze or can many of these vegetables.
