Earlier this year we had the other half of our kitchen set up as a family room. We figured that we already have a large dining room off the kitchen with easy access what would be the point of having an eat in kitchen as well. Well let me tell you... kitchen smells when cooking, not enough people to sit (our kitchen is where people want to congregate!!)
We had a very large get together for the holidays and we didn't have enough seating. Our plan was to bring in the picnic table for the kids and teens to sit at. We had to move furniture (luckily we just finished adding a room in the basement) and then the table came in. I must say, we liked it! Once that table came in so did the people. That was the spot to be during the weekend. Crafts, dinners, coffee, talks.... This was our motivation and new design idea for the WHOLE kitchen.
I found an antique table that needed some love and we were willing to give it to her. She's still pretty rough around the edges but its just personality. Then we brought in the chairs from an oak table I bought and already sold in the summer. Added some art work... aka an old map and that's pretty much it.
Now we hardly eat in the dining room and if we do have a big dinner, adults in one room and children in the other!
Since I have been home over the winter and soon I will be working again, not to mention that the nicer it gets the less likely we will be doing things inside the house.
I started the ball rolling by painting the mud room and that put the itch into G to paint. Hey, it was one of the last rooms on the main floor to do and I already had all the paint tool out! ;) aka my GENIUS PLAN!!
We decided on an accent wall with a slightly darker colour than the rest of the room. Nothing that is glaringly obvious, just something that we notice.
While G started to paint the accent wall, I painted the fireplace.
When we first looked at this house, I loved how bold the fireplace was. I like red!! It made a statement....that I got over really quickly.
Since I had lots of the Poppy Seed colour left over, I got to town taping and painting. What a huge difference it makes!!
Now I just have to wait for the paint to dry to decorate and show it off! Yes, another large dinner this weekend!!
